Hi all,

Just picked up a new car without a hitch receiver, I'm going to explore the wonderful world of roof mounted carriers so the Thule T2 is up for sale.  Was purchased from REI in 2010, sat in our (indoor) closet last year without use.  Great condition, includes locking cylinders, keys, and hitch lock with key.  I'm located in Lakeview in the city - work in Elmhurst, buyer picks up item. $290 OBO.

Open to trades for roof rack systems depending on mount/condition/etc.

Cheers,
Brian

Brian, I installed a hitch on my car in order to carry a similar rack. The hitch cost will vary depending on your car, as will the amount of time you'll need to spend installing it, but know that you don't need to abandon your rack! Just buy the hitch and bolt it on (mine was literally 4 rather stout bolts into the car frame).

Roof racks kill the gas mileage too.

That's what I did on my last car (Acura MDX).  Worked out pretty nice.  My new car (Subaru XV Crosstrek) has some aftermarket hitch solutions, but nothing that I've really been sold on (design-wise).

According to other owners, the aerobar set with racks shouldn't hit my mpg much (2-3mpg with bikes on tops).  Most of my travel around Chicago (commuting) is lower speeds anyway that the rack wouldn't affect.

Thanks for the comment though.
