Free Youth Bike Mechanic Session in South Chicago today, Sunday, Tuesday, Thurs, Sun, etc.

SCVA is hosting another free session to teach kids 13-18 years old how to fix their bikes (etc) today, at 8615 S. Burley- 87th St., 2 blocks West of the Lake Front Trail..

These come-and-go sessions are every Tuesday and Thursday 4:30-6:30pm 4:30-6:30pm and Sundays 12-3 until Sept. 20.

South Chicago Velodrome Association has two people on duty to help the young cyclists. We're a new NFP, run by the community, funded by the community and we hope to expand the options of young locals in a number of ways.  Feel free to swing through and invite friends.

Programs such as this one wouldn't be happening if not for advice from local mainstays such as Blackstone Bicycle Works and West Town Bikes and the help of a few hundred donors and dozens of volunteers.  More details about this and other programs can be found at chicagovelodrome.com.

One of our goals is to pay off the track structure so it's no longer in danger of being repossessed (yes, Chicago can still lose it); we're currently trying to raise enough to stay ahead of current bills (the simplest way to give) as well as more volunteers for various aspects of running this public charity (which doesn't benefit only track racers).

Thanks!  -Marcus
