Anyone ridden the Fox River Trail north of Fox River Shores Forest Preserve (Carpentersville) recently? My wife and I rode there a while back from Elgin and loved the smooth, resurfaced ride up to that point, but were caught by surprise by the unexpected bumps in the older blacktop going north. Anyone else have similar experiences, or notified Fox River Shores Forest Preserve of the state of the trail? Anyone know how much further the bumos go? We have been put off riding there...

Bumps, whatever. Did they fix that bridge?
I was on the trail last Wednesday. My plans to ride from Aurora to Elgin (metra'd in from the city) were thwarted by the trail closure just south of South Elgin. There wasn't a good way to get around the closure, and no detour, so I ended up having to bust ass back south to Geneva to catch a metra train home. I know this doesn't really answer your question, but thought folks would like to know about that closure. I think Elgin to Crystal Lake is a great ride, too.
Good to know! I was considering an Aurora-Elgin trip next weekend.

When I was there around Labo(u)r Day we just went along the railway tracks, the tracks from the museum in Elgin.

Yeah, the ol' Stearns Rd bridge project. They used the FRT to stage construction equipment. Supposedly the trail will re-open in December.

They've made an temporary trail at Stearns & Dunham to facilitate this. There are a few steep grades on either side of Steans but it is passable albeit difficult for recumbents, especially so for trikes.

Oooo...hello 26x34! (1st gear on the Surly LHT)
