The Chainlink

Rob & I were planning on going to the Four Star Bike Tour on Sunday, August 28,and had pre-purchased 2 rider numbers. Unfortunately, we will not be able to make the ride. If anyone would like the rider numbers to attend the event, please let us know since we would like for someone to enjoy the tour since we won't be able to. No resellers, please!! Just hate to waste them.

So, two free rider numbers for the Four Star Bike Tour. Pick up available on the north side this weekend.  Call me-224-688-2567

Thanks,

Melanie & Robert

Here's a description of the event & Start times:

Explore Chicago!

Come bike the neighborhoods with us. The Four-Star Bike Tour is Sunday Aug. 28, 2011 and starts and finishes on the University of Illinois-Chicago campus in the West Loop.

Join us to bike with thousands of other people through Chicago’s streets and neighborhoods on a summer Sunday. All the routes are routed on streets with minimal traffic and safe crossings with signals.

We provide volunteer support on the route, turn-by-turn directions and marked streets to help you along the way.

If it's your first time riding on city streets, be sure to sign up for the Safe City Cycling course.

Chicago Ramble (12 miles)—riders start 8:30–9:30 a.m.

The Ramble is great for families and newer riders who prefer a leisurely pace. Expect to see a distinct Chicago neighborhood every two miles as you ramble through the UIC campus, Pilsen, Bridgeport, Chinatown, Prairie Avenue and Dearborn Park to see lovely green spaces, historic homes and a variety of architectural gems. Want more confidence riding safely on city streets? Chicago Ramble participants can sign up for Safe City Cycling, an education opportunity that will teach you to ride more confidently and safely on city streets.

South Side Jaunt (21 miles)riders start 8:30–9 a.m.

Not feeling quite up to 35 miles, then the South Side Jaunt is for you. This route shares 21 miles of the southern portion of the 35 mile ride. Starting at UIC, riders pass through Pilsen, take Oakwood and Drexel Boulevards south through the beautiful and historic Kenwood and Hyde Park neighborhoods, home of University of Chicago. Riders then travel east past Midway Plaisance Park, further south on Woodlawn and then return north along Jackson Park. At Promontory Point, riders hop on the lakefront trail for the final scenic lakeside stretch. Like the 35-mile Boulevard and Beyond ride, the route incorporates portions of the classic Boulevard Lakefront Tour with some new route additions.

Boulevards & Beyond (35 miles)—riders start 7–8:30 a.m.

This route incorporates elements of the classic Boulevard Lakefront Tour with plenty of new attractions rolled in. You’ll travel through many of the same Chicago neighborhoods as the Chicago Ramble, also riding through Bronzeville, Hyde Park, South Commons and the Near South Side. You’ll explore Garfield and Humboldt Parks before following Oakwood and Drexel Boulevards south to soak up the beautiful, historic Kenwood and Hyde Park neighborhoods. In Hyde Park, you’ll head east through the Midway Plaissance, and then continue south on Woodlawn to Jackson Park where you’ll pick up the Lakefront Trail for the return trip.

Ultimate Neighborhood Ride (65 miles)—riders start 6:307 a.m.

Ready to go the distance? This ride takes you through more than 30 Chicago neighborhoods and introduces you to little-known gems of the Windy City. You’ll initially follow the Boulevards & Beyond route before splitting off southward to the historic company town of Pullman. On your way to Chicago’s southernmost neighborhood, Hegewisch, you’ll be utterly surprised to learn that you’re still within Chicago city limits as you explore the wild landscape near Lake Calumet. You’ll then swing back north through the state park located along Wolf Lake, and then open up on the Burnham Greenway bike path. On the journey north, you can check out Calumet Park, Rainbow Beach and explore the historic Highlands of Jackson Park. Expect minimal stops and light traffic. This ride, designed for the experienced rider or those looking for a challenge, will get your legs moving and your heart pumping.

Active Trans would like to thank the Chicago Cycling Club for their help in planning the 2011 Four-Star Bike Tour’s exciting routes.
