I found a bike I believe to be stolen hidden behind my office building yesterday November 11, 2013. It was found near the intersection of California and Addison. I believe it belongs to a student at either Gordon Tech High School or Lane Tech High School. To claim the bike the owner must provide proof of purchase from a bike shop, the bicycle vendor, the serial number and a complete description of the bike including style, size, color and any distinguishing marks. The bike will be turned over to the police at the end of the week if t e rightful owner is not found. There are posts on Craigslist and the Stolen Bike Registry of Chicago. Not sure what else to do, so any additional ideas/suggestions are welcomed. Thanks!!!

Your description is too vague - the bike could have been stolen from a wider area than you are assuming.  I would give at least a detail or two so that people can know if their stolen bike is even the ballpark.  (I had a bike stolen about 3 weeks ago less than a mile away.)

Yeah, I think you can give basic details. Everyone who has ever had a bike stolen is probably hoping you found theirs.

I understand you don't want it to go to the wrong person. For sure.

My office is right by two high schools so my guess is a student hide the bike until s/he could get back to it. I honestly have no idea. I've never been in this situation before. I just want to ensure the bike is returned to its rightful owner. It's a black fixed gear bike size 52.

Black fixed gear size 52 is a much better description!

I can understand why you would assume a student stole it given the location but it could just as well be anyone else who happens by that area. It could also have been one of those "temporary" thefts where someone took it for a so-called joyride and then just left it.

I do hope it gets reunited with its owner.
