The Chainlink

I have more bikes now and I can't just have them laying around various locations in my apartment.
What I'm looking for is a floor to ceiling rack that I can mount a couple of bikes on. And also has to be local.
Can anyone help me?

Well, have you looked at the various bike support products on the various online catalogs?  I have one of these Velo Cache stands in one room and I love it.  I should get another...

I've got a 2-bike floor-standing rack that I'm not using anymore. $40 firm. The arms adjust to fit just about any bikes. South Loop area.

This Rolling Rack is on sale for $40 right now (normally $50) and Harbor Freight has stores in the burbs both SE and NW of here a short drive.

I have one and it is absolutely is great. I've got 4 bikes and a unicycle on mine with room for yet more bikes.  Technically you can get 6 bikes on it but it's a PITA to get the inner bikes out because you can't just pull off all 3 from one side without it falling over.

But the nice thing is you can push it up into a corner as it is on big rolly wheels. You can pull it away from a wall/corner and spin it around in place to get to the far side of the rack and then push it back up against the wall out of the way again.

Greatest thing in the world.  I'm thinking of buying another for my garage for my project bikes as well as the one I have in my living room for my everyday-rider personal bikes.

The thing has basically a 4' x 4' footprint and it can be pushed up against the wall or even a corner so it mostly disappears.

I've had an Ultimate Velo Cache for about 20 years. Free standing. Very stable. Holds 4 bikes with the expansion kit. Adjustable to hold bikes with straight or sloping top tubes. If I didn't already have it, I'd get another.  Looks like this:

I have been using this one, I think it was from Performance, It has room for two more bikes on th backside but I do not use them. It uses pressure to hold it from the floor to the ceiling. Been pretty happy with it.

Thanks James, this exactly what I needed for the basement!

I just bought one and I'm excited to see it arrive.   The $7 flat rate for shipping is great for me because it would take that much gas to get out there, and there is a coupon code WINTER10 that will get you 10% off, if anyone else is interested.

Yes - That looks pretty brilliant.

I have one of the two stacked up horizontally racks such as the one Sam S is selling. It is nice to get a bike up in the air and make room for another bike under it, but I can't see that there is anything to be gained by flying the lower bike. Currently I'm using it in a space with some other storage underneath the top bike. At a previous house, I used it to store one bike in the top position, but found it simpler to just lean a second bike under the higher bike rather than futzing with trying to hang a second bike.

This happened to show up on Craigslist today:

I was thinking of using a couple of these...maybe a horizontal board to  make sure i grab on to the studs. i could make a small shelf on top for my helmet too.

Wow.  For $40, I don't think you could go wrong with that.  Thanks for the info!

These are great. http://www.toolking.com/1/itw_piw_1r_wall_mount_bike_hanger_1051803...

My garage walls are lined with these, keeps the bikes tidy.

I use Topeak, "Two-up" - it was 'free' with my REI dividends.

I use a Topeak dual touch and am very happy with it. It's a friction mounted single pole design which is nice because it requires a very minimal amount of floor space (vs. a large base). The bad thing about it, though, is you cannot use it if you have a drop-ceiling or in a vibration-prone environment. It comes with hooks for two bikes, but if you have a tall enough ceiling you can get another hook for a third.

You should be able to get it through Roscoe Village Bikes - they use them in their showroom.
