As I had posted a while ago, my Trek road bike got stolen, and I am looking to go to Turin in the very near future to pick a road bike model from 2011 (so that I can get it for less :) ). Is Felt a reliable make as compared to Trek, considering their comparable $1000 road bikes?

I have a felt and haven't had any issues with it due to the manufacturer.  The frame is decent and the components tend to be a good deal.  But really, I don't think you're really see too much difference between the major manufacturers once to get to $1000 or higher.  A lot of the differences from there are marginal changes and marketing speak.

I have a Felt FX1 cyclocross which has run trouble-free for many years. "S" is right in his comments about not much difference between the two makes in price range you are considering. I'd suggest finding the right bike shop before you buy. Give Iron Bikes a try.

I'd also agree about makes of cycles being negligible. The more I researched before I purchased, the more I saw that you could almost guarantee what you'd get at a given price range. Like for $1000, you're pretty much going to get an aluminum frame by Kinesis, carbon fork, and a mix of Tiagra/Sora components. These days, it seems like even the geometry of certain models in the price range is somewhat similar too (probably due to using the same frames.)

I agree that it's really about the shop. As for Turin, I have purchased a Trek there as well as clothing and accessories. Jerry O is a stand-up guy, and the great staff is a reason they get my business.
