The Chainlink

Here are a few of my favorite songs for my Spinning classes and when I ride my trainer. I'm always looking for new ones... what are some of yours?

In no particular order:

Counting Crows - A Murder of One
ATB - 9 pm
BT - Simply Being Loved
The Chemical Brothers - Galvanize
Gabriel & Dresden - Athena
Allman Brothers - Jessica
Love Stoned / I Think She Knows - Justin Timberland & Kaskade
Royksopp - Only This Moment
Matchbox Twenty - How Far We've Come
Ladytron - Destroy Everything You Touch
Paul Oakenfold - Ready Steady Go

Although I don't do the trainer thing, if I did I would add Massive Attack, Faithless and Olive to the list. Those are staples in my workout ipod mix which has been collecting dust since last winter. I hope to hear a lot of slush this winter!
Great thread.

I usually listen to metal. It's very motivating and visceral.
Michael Jackson
Good call! I actually have an MJ-themed spin class where I play original MJ songs and then the remakes. There are some good, fun remakes by Alien Ant Farm, Fall Out Boy, Rihanna (samples, not technically remake I guess).

Man I wish I could find a club where I could teach spinning and play nothing but rock and metal. Seriously I was almost ambushed for playing a 45 second Minor Threat song once...for crying out loud I was trying to get them to SPRINT!
I have all my music in my iTunes, and when I led classes I would play them from my ipod (don't have a teaching gig right now though).
I'd love to take a look - I'm always looking for great music!

Leah-- you would -love- my spin mixes.
Gotta get 'em to you . . .
How do you store your music? How do you play it?
I keep everything on a hard drive in original CD format/quality-- got about 120 GB if you want to pick and choose.

You find the club, I'll def attend. I'm partial to Op Ivy and some of the faster RBF.

The Compleat Eclectic Cadence Work Out

For those who want to start out slow and get up to speed in 2 minutes try:

Free Money by Patti Smith

or if you want to take 2:35 then make it

Train Kept A Rollin’ by Aerosmith

For those who want a nice sweet start try:

Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This) by the Eurythmics

followed by

Standing in the Way of Control by The Gossip

Then you should be ready for some wind sprints starting with (of course)

Lose My Breath by Destiny’s Child

followed by, if you can keep up, by

Helicopter by Bloc Party
Luno by Bloc Party

Then settle into some steady but increasingly quick-paced rhythms of

Come On Home by Franz Ferdinand
Rollin’ and Tumblin’ by Jeff Beck
What You Wanting For? by Gwen Stefani
Banquet by Bloc Party (they’re back!)
Ojos Asi (Thunder Mix is 10:19 long) by Shakira & Amr Diab

Shakira eases you down slowly to the steady pace of

Immigrant Song by Led Zeppelin
Keep the Car Running by Arcade Fire
Hung Up by Madonna
Gone Gone Gone by Robert Plant and Alison Krauss
Running Down a Dreams by Tom Petty
Love Me Like You by The Magic Numbers

Spike it once again with (if you dare challenge finger picking)

Sugarfoot Rag by Junior Brown

Second breath work out with

Don’t Stop the Music by Rihanna
New Attitude by Patti LaBelle

Catch your breath and cool down with

Baby Please Don’t Go by Van Morrison with Them
Steady As She Goes by The Raconteurs

End it off with

Silent Shout by The Knife
A few years ago I used to take a 2 1/2 hour spin class at the Bally's downtown. It was awesome - felt like going on a real ride and the woman who taught it brought granola bars for everyone. :)

3 hour spin?
I have to say h3 I loved your music on the last critical mass. Got me spinning (outside but still).
