Last month I did a speech at Ignite Chicago called Fat Bottomed Girls and talked about the overlap I find in the world of cycling and fat acceptance/body acceptance.

The video is up (I actually haven't watched it yet) and I also posted the presentation and the speech as I'd planned to give it. What happened on stage and what happened on paper are two different things. :)

Anywho, the video is on my blog with a link to the speech.

I give a shout out to the Crash hotline towards the end.

A different version ;-)
I've never heard this version before! I LOVE IT!
Great right? They really sell it! ;-) Good job on the speech! ;-) Good job gettin back on the bike. A wreck always sucks. It'll be 2 years Wednesday for me and I still don't have a settlement from the jerkwad that hit me.
Thank you very much for sharing this! I hope that you feel comfortable on a bike again soon. I definitely relate with the points in your speech. Thanks!
Thanks! The weekend after this speech a friend took me on a training ride to get me back on the streets and since then I've commuted on my own, zipped around the north side and done the channel path up to the Bahai Temple. Definitely back in the saddle!

Thanks for sharing. I like what you said about not riding your bike to lose weight. Many of my hobbeis are active, and I feel like when I discuss this hobbies with (some) other women, the comment I get in return is something like "and it'll help you lose weight" or "you can get in shape that way". Its annoying to think that as an overweight woman the primary reason I would take up a hobby is to have a better body, not because its something I simply enjoy doing. I'm also glad to hear you are back to enjoying riding again.
Great speech. Thanks for sharing.
Well done Leah!

Gabe, the internetz has some interesting stuff on it. That version is hilarious.
You are a total inspiration for me on so many levels and I'm so happy we've met. Keep up the tikkun olam.

Thanks, Julie! And thanks to everyone! I hope I can find another time to try the speech again - maybe expand it to 7 minutes instead of just 5. :)
Way to inspire! Great job!
