Because the Sun-Times and Trib are in their death-throes, I have the BBC as my home page for national and world news.  Today they ran this story:

Just for swerving head-on into the paths of some cyclists, not even hitting them, this guy was sentenced to 2 1/2 years in jail.  Can anyone imagine any court in Cook County handing down a sentence like that?  And there was no mealy-mouthed nonsense from this court about the incident being just an "accident."

However, just when I was feeling pretty good about England, I also came across this story:

This does remind me of Cook County.  A pretty half-hearted effort by the police when it came to identifying the driver.  The police identified a man and woman who were eligible to drive the car at the time and asked them for the driver details, but they didn't respond.  One of them was ultimately fined 150 pounds for failing to comply, and that was that.

Anyway, the Cook County court system's quest to get the Bobby Cann case into the Guinness World Records for "Longest-Running Court Case Involving A Bicycle Fatality" continues.  Another proud moment for justice in Chicago.
