Bike superhighways above traffic, good or bad planning?

I would enjoy riding the SkyCycle if I ever had the opportunity to do so (and if London's cycling Mayor Boris Johnson manages to pull this one off!).  Unlike our planned Bloomingdale Trail, and New York's High Line, the London idea is a full network of elevated bike paths, not just a linear run, and it's designed for travel rather than parkland.  My fear with the Bloomingdale Trail is that it will be just as hard to ride as the Lakefront Path, with dogs, pedestrians, frisbee or ball games and such impeding a cyclist's progress.  The London vision is several straight out bike roads with no other distractions, which is nice.
