Divvy announces Divvy Week, puts more bikes on the streets

The bike share program will celebrate the arrival of spring with promotional rates from April 21–27

Divvy stations have been looking a little empty as of late, but they'll be fully stocked by the end of the week. Today, Chicago's bike-share program announced that it is getting ready for spring by releasing 700 bikes that were in storage during the winter back into its system. Divvy has been operating for nine months, but riders have already logged an estimated two million miles on the bright blue bikes. "We anticipate a lot more residents and visitors giving us a try now that they've had a chance to see the system at work and the weather improving," Divvy general manager Eliiot Greenberger explained.

To encourage more Chicagoans to try Divvy for the first time or purchase an annual membership, the city has announced that April 21–27 will be "Divvy Week" in Chicago. During the week, 24-hour passes will be available for $5 instead of the normal price of $7. Additionally, individuals who sign up for a new annual membership during Divvy Week will receive a Chipotle gift card, while other prizes and promotions will be offered to existing Divvy members.

A helmet might be a more appropriate gift than a burrito gift certificate, but it's nice to see that the city is encouraging residents to give Divvy a try. The promotion could end up putting more bikers on Chicago's roads, which might motivate CDOT to bring more Divvy stations to underserved areas and install even more protected bike lanes across the city. If you do decide to hop on a bike during Divvy Week, make sure to follow the rules of the road. And please stay off of Lake Shore Drive

Only a few days left 'til Sunday.  I only just noticed HALF OFF FRO-YO with your FOB.

"All Divvy members get 50% froyo from any Forever Yogurt location in Chicago throughout the whole week. Just flash your key at checkout to receive the discount."

I think I will try Divvy for the first time tomorrow.
