I'd love to start a daily update of road/LSP conditions for biking. I was about to walk out the door this morning when my roommate warned me that all the roads were iced over and there were accidents everywhere. How were the main streets this morning?

Well it rained all weekend and then froze hard last night so a thin skin of ice is the order of the day.
It's worse on foot than on the bike though.
I am still under the Covers I don't know what is going on. Mark come back to bed.
Main streets were clear, side streets were treacherous. The ice has a little bit of a gritty texture so there's more grip than slick ice and I didn't skid at all. :)

Agreed. It really wasn't too bad except for the side streets. Oh, and the extreme cold.
I find extreme cold quite exhilarating.

I was on the Southside bike path along the lake. The salt had not melted the skim ice. But with studded tires there was no problem. Don't know what it would be like without them. A touch windy though.
I ran some errands today on my cruiser. A lot of ice everywhere, but fun to skid and slide on. The wind was a bit numbing, but fun. I am glad I took the girl out for a spin.
Roads are pretty slushy at the moment, I've been on chicago, halsted, milwaukee, and downtown. I'd say its wet. not too slippery.
I was all over the loop. Mostly just slushy, dirty snow on corners and less busy streets. Not too slippery but still just enough to randomly let out a 'holy shit'.

I took Kinzie to Milwaukee to Chicago and that was clear...but man, the side streets...I don't think Rockwell has seen a plow or salt yet this season.
today is the FIRST time i saw a plow on Huron, and it was seriously just passing through, didn't law out salt at all. and then about two hours later one came.

Roads were as I expected too, slushy...some places I could ride in the bike lane, other places I couldn't . But most streets were plowed by morning (even my little side street). My alderman, Gene Schulter of the 47th ward (Northside in Ravenswoodyish) sends out emails all the time with updates, and he promised side streets would be plowed by morning and they were!
Just to revive a zombie thread, I was coming home about 30 minutes ago and every road that I crossed was pretty icy. Between the rain and cars melting the snow, it looks like the conditions are great for ice to form. This was in hyde park so things may be different further north if the roads have been salted. Oh, a fair amount of the sidewalks have patches of ice as well.
