Let's hope it was fiction. It would make this sentence easier to disregard: "It is a sad fact of life that death is the ultimate consequence of biking and while most people are already cautious, please do not take lightly that you may forfeit your life due to the irresponsible actions of the other people on the roads."
The ultimate consequence? Really? Even in the face of tragedy like this, cycling is living, not dying.
Wow! You guys are so fatalistic! I've been biking on the streets of Chicago for over 30 years 'cause I haven't owned a car for that length of time. During that time I've also taken numerous trips to Wisconsin and Michigan on my bike too. And in 2004 I completed a trip out to the west coast.
In other words, lots of biking; little driving. And in all those 30+ years I can count on one hand the number of "close calls" I've ever had. And I've NEVER been physically injured on my bike, despite multiple trips over the handlebars with no helmet. I think Chicago earns its reputation every day, as the best large city biking in the US.
So please...cheer up!
Oh man. Damn. That freaks me out. Is there any news coverage? What does it take for that to happen? I don't really understand why anyone thinks this is a work of fiction. Have you contacted the author to verify such?
