Interesting article that I suppose could be filed under "Duh that makes sense" for most of us. Nice strong counter to the Auto-Centric attitudes that some may have.

"I don't really mind the stereotype that cyclists have and spend less money" - I kind of do and am happy to see a study to counter it, and one that shows that in an Urban environment that it is not necessary to increase parking to increase shop revenues. More proof that less cars can make for healthier living in both financial and environment.

To your other comment about the "right"... I could be considered on the City Right and have always found, for the last 20+ yrs, that walking/CTA, and in the last 5 yrs that my 3 bikes are way better to get around town than my car. Stereotyping is a silly thing and we should be doing things to break it. It makes me smile when every summer more of my city friends are riding (on both sides politically) now following my lead.  Down side to this... less space on the rack at the yacht club. I know, first world (or 1%) problems.

May I suggest that you go back and re read the article, it is a polling of people done at the point of purchase with data that support's the author's conclusion. It seeks to break stereotypes like the "poor Mac toting latte drinker" (which is a silly "poor" stereotype as neither item is cheap don't you think?) and promote the overall benefit of a pedestrian/cycle friendly atmosphere. Please show me where the link is promoting anything other than this culture is good for business, perhaps I am not reading your replies properly, but I think I am.

May I submit that this is the very article you should embrace as it is counter to what the silly misguided suburb living editorial writer for the local papers feels/promotes about bikes.

for a laugh regarding the poor comments - I was called a poor biker by a guy driving a Kia when he thought I touched his vehicle, my response after a chuckle "I'm riding one of my bikes home after a day on the water racing sailboats, you really ought to shift your view on who rides in the city. Oh and FWIW I left my BMW at home... like I do most months." His buddy had a grin on his face after that.

Ha..love the perception that we as bikers must be poor. What's odd is when I see cyclists rail on cycling companies for making products that are too expensive. See - Nonethless, Mission Workshop, etc..but the thing is that these brands ARE selling...to people who love bikes and have money to spend. If it weren't for my wife throttling me back, I'd probably spend at least $3000-$4000 per year on bike stuff.
