I'm looking for people who like to ride bikes AND like to volunteer, to--you guessed it--combine the two. There's a bunch of events coming up (and countless nonprofits) in need of ready, willing, and awesome volunteers. There's a lot of talent and energy in the Chicago cycling community so why not put it to good use? If you like to help people (and often score free food...), hit me up or check out the Swerve Collective page here on Chainlink. I'll be posting volunteer opportunities both bike-related (helping move West Town Bikes) and non (City Year youth service days) on the SC page for your viewing and doing pleasure.

Eventually, I hope to have a core-group of velo-driven volunteers to help plan more bike-centric service projects, while remaining a volunteer resource to the local nonprofit community at large.

For now, I'm just looking for people to volunteer with, and maybe help recruit others to the movement...

Thoughts? Questions? Event tips? Artists? (looking for a logo-design)

Love, peace, bicycle and elbow grease,
Aveo.

when I Google 'Velo' I find it attached to everything bicycle and brand names, I go on the Wikipedia and it goes to the definition if bicycle, so I don't really know what it means. Is it the same as bicycle, kinda what I am thinking now. If it is why use the two words and not just one or the other. It is the simple slang that always I am not always hip. I am an 80's person. Oh what is swerve ? Can someone define that as well ?
Hey there Swerve -

I'm always down to help. As a matter of fact, you're all welcome to join up at my place on thursday for the assembly party for the Derailleur ('the unofficial magazine of critical mass')

Also, I'm the volunteer manager at Active Transportation Alliance, so if you're interested in cool opps, just shoot me an email: jody@activetrans.org.

One really cool upcoming job I'm recruiting for: go out on nice days by bike and hand out Bike the Drive flyers to cyclists along the lakefront path. Six hours of pre-event volunteering also qualifies you for a complimentary registration! Cool, huh?!?
Volunteers needed this Thursday eve in Wicker Park!
Assembly party 6-10
Drop off your donated goods 5:30-7:00
Stop in, hang out, assemble, sell, bring a friend - we hope to see you!
