The Chainlink

I just spent most of the morning making design and layout changes to my bike law blog, The Chicago Bicycle Advocate. My hope is that it is more helpful, user friendly and entertaining. Any thoughts or criticisms you may have would be much appreciated. Please be frank. I can take it (though if you're down right mean I will bite back;). Thanks.

Ah this explains his rage, he's jealous of your design.
Having a bad day, Eric?

People on this web site complain about bike issues way to much and need to get out and ride more…how about spending more time planning rides to meet others with common interests and less complaining about issues you really can not fix…I’m still trying to figure out how one gets mugged on a bike – you must ride really slow or maybe you shouldn’t be riding in the city to begin with…way to many of you must come from the suburbs or only ride down the lake front/live on the North side or something…how do you grow up in a city and not have the bike skills to out run someone on foot…how embarrassing!!!…your lack of biking skills et al. Lock you bike up and take the bus…
And now for an on-topic post:

I like the layout of your blog. Maintaining a simple, no-frills approach allows the reader to focus on the content. Less is more.
Thanks, Michael for the comment and for steering this discussion back on track.

Thanks. I agree with your comment about the Labels. I partially adopted your suggestion by arranging them as a "cloud" rather than a long list. I think it looks a bit better.

I think it is very readable and anybody who has spent anytime reading blogs will be able to follow easily. The stuff on the right hand side is very busy (esp. "Labels" and I don't think anybody ever looks at it. However, I think you are slave to Blogspot on that one and can do much about it. If you do have control, consider killing all that distracting stuff.
Nice blog. I appreciate how you are upfront about what you do and why the blog is there. It looks great in the Chrome browser.

My only layout/design suggestion is that your logo, while fun, is far too huge. You could make it 1/4 of the size and it would be just as effective without taking up a whole first screen. You'd need to bump up the size of "A Lawyer for Bicyclists" probably if you shrink the rest of the image.

While I'm being excessively picky about the logo, I think there is room for improvement in the way the dark red text works with (and doesn't in some places) the background image. There is too much conflict of line in some places - the bike frame mostly, and the contrast is insufficient on the biker's body.
I appreciate that. Thanks!

Thanks for the pick-up. I'll fix it immediately.

My only nit: The act of propelling a bicycle forward is pedaling, not peddling; the latter is the act of selling a bicycle (hopefully not one that's been stolen!). You made this faux pas twice in today's left turn post, I believe.
One of my pet peeves, too, although I did not mention it in my earlier critique of your site. Maybe we need to start a group on Chainlink dedicated to thwarting this assault on the English language. ;-)

I try not to assault the language, though I suppose I rough it up a bit from time to time.
