Crazy Time Everywhere

It looks like its crazy time everywhere.   Here's a story from the Washington Post about an apparently Drunk Driver who drove an extended length of time ON A DEDICATED OFF ROAD BICYCLE trail at a high rate of speed.  She nearly hit a number of people and did strike and seriously injure a 65 year old cyclist (and she apparently kept going).   We can only say "apparently drunk" because it appears that she refused a sobriety test.  And yet, they let her out with a $10,000 bond -- which is only 1,000 in cash.

Wow.... the car crazies are really out.

She was reported to have told the police that she was coming from Mexico when questioned at the scene. Holy shitfaced, Batman.

Im glad she didn't hit anyone but it is a sham how her bail is the same as someone who kills a person. Im not saying hers should be lower. The other case should be much, much higher.

She did hit someone.   They were seriously hurt.   They were not killed (or at least they have not yet died....).    Her bail was 1/10th of the guy in Chicago.   That being said, they both were engaged in very bad behavior.   One of them got "luckier" than the other.    The Chicago "killer" was purportedly speeding, and intoxicated on a road for cars and other vehicles and struck one of the other vehicles.  And he stopped and waited for the cops. The DC "Non-Killer" was purportedly speeding (50 mph) and intoxicated on a path NOT designated for cars and struck one of the intended users of the path and nearly hit a number more.  And she didn't stop after hitting the intended user.    We are mad at Chicago for not treating the Chicago case seriously enough, but if I was in DC I would be WHITE HOT over this.    In many ways, the DC driver's conduct was worse, it just happens that purely because of chance, the result wasn't as tragic.    Its the conduct, not the result, that needs to be punished.

Sorry I misread the OP. It still is a sham how cheap bail is for these actions.

Not drunk drivers  but what's with the people driving in the parks, other than business owners or the 3 spots reserved for wheelchairs? Down the bike path near Montrose, North ave.
