Obviously these guys know how to create a pretty web video. It would be even nicer if they had an actual product to announce: timeline, locations, pricing, etc., etc. Sounds like something they produced to get some VC money

Apparently it already exists and being implemented in Denver . It is too bad that there's still no word on rates.

What struck me most was the thread title, implying it is coming to Chicago, not Denver, followed by nothing but marketing fluff. This is not just about flashy looking bikes and a website. It's about large scale bicycle maintenance at little cost to the taxpayer. How are they going to make that work?

Hmm, even the video's vaporware on my computer :)

Montreal launched its big Bixi bike sharing program last year, and cities like DC and Tulsa have had small programs for a while now. Boston and Minneapolis have signed contracts with Bixi to launch systems this year.

I've heard figures of <$1000/bike bandied about as an estimate of the startup cost for such a system, plus maintenance -- not something a small business could do on a whim, and difficult to support using revenue models like advertising. It's still much cheaper than other transportation purchases, of course; e.g., buses cost ~$350K apiece.
