It just occurred to me the other day that clearing snow on the new protected bike lanes may present a few problems. First, when the streets are plowed, is the snow going to end up dumped in the new lanes? Is there any plan to clear/salt the new lanes. Are the plastic partitions getting removed for the snow season? If they are removed, and the bike lane is not fully cleared will cyclists have to dodge the metal partition anchors on the street? It goes to reason that this has been planned out, but I don't recall seeing any thing about this.

Kinzie Street snow removal
When a meeting attendee asked how snow would be dealt with on the Kinzie Street protected bike lane, CDOT Deputy Commissioner Luann Hamilton mentioned that new CDOT Commissioner Gabe Klein built similar lanes in Washington, D.C., where it also snows, and will bring his experience in this to Chicago.

This is comforting, but I would like to hear what the plan is. People thought there must be a plan in place for bike parking when parking meters were removed...

I find it ominous that they do not expound on what his experience in removing snow is...

I mean hsi plan in DC could have been to let them stay full of snow...
