Does anyone have any photos or info about bike only lanes that ran down Clark and Dearborn in rush hour during the 1970's?

Anything would be great, thanks!

"In May 1971, Daley unveiled a 34-mile bicycle route, and, in August 1972, he inaugurated rush-hour bicycle lanes on Clark and Dearborn Streets. During the 1970s, soaring gas prices and heightened concern about energy and air pollution bolstered public support for Daley's bicycling programs. " -

How long did this last? It doesn't say when it was canceled.

If I recall correctly, the revision history on the old pavement marking plans on file at CDOT indicate the lanes were removed in 1988. No reason was given.
Yea, I was hoping for a 'regular' image of people cycling during rush hour on these lanes.
I'd like to see 1) if people used it and if yes, how much? 2) how it was enforced 3) what the design looked like...

There must be a photo of Dearborn or Clark around this time showing these lanes....Maybe the museum or historical society..
Newberry Library and Chicago Historical Society have nice photo archives that you get to flip through with white gloves on. Seems to me the Chicago Tribune may have a print archive as well. The Trib's online archives are kind of limited, but does contain gems like this showing Daley, front, riding a tandem with Dr. Paul Dudley White in June of 1956 to open the first of a series of cycling trails in 15 parks.
