Chicago Ghost Bikes?

She's filming a documentary about Ghost Bikes and gets into town on Friday-- I've been working with her already to identify which bikes are still up.  Would rather not have that information listed publicly in one convenient place as there have been threats by various individuals outside the community to make a project out of taking them all down.

 

I would also ask that others here avoid publicly listing current Ghost Bike locations for this same reason.

Thanks, that's a huge help. That's really discouraging to me that people would want to do that. Out of respect though I'm more than happy to keep it under wraps. If anyone wants to contact me directly on here to help I'd appreciate it.

Critical Massers should do a Ghost Bike Tour.  Hit every one.  Might take all night. . .

That already happens. It is called the "Ride of Silence". Third Wednesday in May

The Chicago Ride of Silence has never made an attempt to hit all the ghost bikes and a recent communication from Elizabeth suggests it is only intended to be for the North Side.

It's been energizing watching the planning around awareness raising and anti-dooring unfold, but "somebody (else) should" posts seem to be at an all time high as well. Bill, why not plan that ride and propose it at a Critical mass?

H' :I work 60-70 hour weeks at three jobs, and just don't have the time or energy to organize.  I don't intend to be a slacker, but just to offer ideas that someone else might have the time/energy for in my occasional 5-minute internet breaks. . .

Gotcha.  Well, in regard to that suggestion, someone proposed it in the last year or so on the CCM listserv and it was vehemently shot down. Doesn't mean it can't happen, and past CCMs have done similar things (but not much more recently than 2006 or so.)

The Chicago Ride of Silence will continue to visit ghost bikes each year. Unfortunately due to the constraints of the Ride and its time we simply cannot visit all the ghost bikes. This year the Ride of Silence route did go south. As the ride and route evolve, we hope it's inclusive and serves to honor the memory of all we have lost on our roads.
