Sadly I don't have wheels that fit what's needed in this thread, but it occurs to me that people could really save a lot of money and hassle if we got some freecycling going on here, as I'm sure everyone has crap laying around that other people could put to some good use. Sure we'd all be leery of giving stuff away only to see it pop up on Craigslist, but we could take a chance and trust our fellow men and women. Any interest? If so I'll start off with some not especially valuable but perfectly serviceable goods and we'll see how it works.

Doc,
Am I missing something or did you neglect to include your list of goods?

I think this is a great idea. Were you thinking that the stuff would be listed in this thread? How would we/you handle the issue of marking the items as gone when they are gone? Perhaps the Marketplace, as bad as that is would be a better mechanism? That way the posters of the stuff could continue to edit their postings (or just remove them) long after the 15 minute editing period for forum replies is over?
I just wanted to hold off on listing my junk until I saw if there was some interest and if so how it might work. (I'm leery of the Marketplace and also unsure people would be aware there was free stuff there if we shunted it in there.)

We could just list stuff in this thread, though that seems like it would be unwieldy. Probably the easiest thing would be to just set up a group.
Why not just use Freecycle?

I kind of assume that there is a pretty good overlap between Chainlinkers and Freecyclers. I know that I've always had takers when I put my cycling related stuff up for grabs on Freecycle. Perhaps using a forum here would allow me to better target people that I know are cyclists. However, I always draw some security from the idea that when I post something to give away on Freecycle, the person offering to take it "knows the deal." And typically that means that the disposal / exchange goes off without a hitch.

On the other hand, I don't spend a lot of time checking the Freecycle site to see whether people are looking for something I haven't already determined I'm giving away. It would definitely be nice to somehow have a Chainlink / cycling group within the Freecycle community. That's something I would check pretty regularly.
I was thinking of proposing a parts swap. I think the British Bicycle group is already doing something like that.
