Chainlink Camping: July Edition: Discussion

The trip this weekend was nice....and I'm looking forward to riding the next one. Who's in? Where do we want to go? What weekend?

Would anyone be up for Chain O' Lakes State Park?

Its about 60 miles out, the campsites are quite a bit more private than the ones at the Indiana Dunes State park Campground.

The route to the park might need some work, but once there we could rent canoes or rowboats and hit the water.

It's also only about 5 miles from the Fox Lake Metra stop, so if you're worried about the riding, you have an easy escape option.

Who's in? What dates work best? I'd want to do a Friday to Sunday trip. Maybe July 17-19?

you know this clown is down!!

i think that any place we do decide on, escape routes may be vital for some, for two reasons. in the famous words of Andre 3000...you can plan a pretty picnic but you cant predict the weather...and chicago weather is def not predictable. also, many of us urbanites are riding on inappropriate bikes, its sometimes difficult to ride back on jello legs (tho the indy dunes trip was a good measure of our limits and capabilites).

im always a fan of plan B.

i think the date may be determined still, but we should def come up with a date that works for most. It gets tricky when organizing a larger group trip, but the earlier the date agreed upon, the better we can all plan for it with work, other commitments, etc.

im going camping abroad the week before so cant really do it the weekend of the 10th (maybe if Shar and i are ambitious). the 17th works, the 24th works.

I vote the 24th- because I'm thinking Milwaukee on the 17th.

depending on work I'm in. and I like the metra thing since if I get out of work late I can the metra there and ride back with you guys sunday. Good work all!

i could kind of do both.... kind of not... the 17th a friend wants me to go visit her in pittsburgh..planned a party around me kind of thing... and i the 24th... more likely.. my sister is coming in town though

It's not set, but I'm not really sure what would be closer...Illinois beach is just as far but might be an easier option. There is a trail most of the way there, but it is crushed limestone for a good portion.

Chain O Lakes has boating but no swimming There are some farms nearby that will have cherries available to pick during July. Beachs has swimming, which might be nice for the middle of July.

I'm game for either.

Both of those parks have nearby metra stations within 5 miles.
