We have groups for RAGBRAI, beer exploration by bike, randonneuring, camping by bike and who knows what all else.  But what about just trying to hook up with someone or some ones who ride at a similar pace and might want to do all or part of a century or one of the many multi-day rides popping up on the calendar?

I am a slow-poke, but I want to do some longer distance riding this year.  Le Tour de Shore looks good; Amishland looks good.  I know there is the Apple Cider Century and I imagine there are many other multi-day rides out there that don't show up in our events but would be great fun!

Last summer a thread about the North Shore Century ended up being used to make connections between riders to ride together.  I am hoping this thread will start some connections for different rides.

On a ride up to 100km (62mi), you can get by on what you eat before the ride and liquid calories (Gatorade, etc.).  After that point, you need to be getting serious calories during the ride (on a break or while riding).  When you make the jump from 300km to 400km, you need to budget sleep time or deal with sleep depravation.

That metric system is magical!

But I agree that those numbers are fairly close depending on the person plus or minus. 

Fortunately I always have been a morning person.  Around 9:00 p.m. I start turning orange.  All of the evening/night rides sound like a good idea until it actually comes to going out to do them!

I am coming to the conclusion that the hardest thing about longer rides is finding the time to do them!  Yesterday I managed to get out for about 11 miles. I felt like I had just started, but had so much to do at home that I had to quit.

I am so not a late person.  At midnight my tires turn into tiny mice.

Lisa, budget your chores, get some extra shuteye the night before the ride and drink a small bottle of 5 hour energy drink 1/2 hour before the start of the ride. My 81 year old mom is an invalid with Parkinsons disease and memory loss and my 89 year old father needs lots of help but come Memorial Day my sister and her husband will return from their winter home in Florida to spend the summer in their summer home in Park Ridge and this will free me up to do S24O's.

How about a ride with multiple distances that starts and ends at a brewery, where people will be partying a bit after riding?  

I am partial to this ride, being on the Executive Committee, but I am being 100% honest in saying we put on a GREAT event - the ADA's Tour de Cure Chicagoland.

I ride very slowly too, I'd be very interested in riding with another sloth. I'm very slow but I really love long-distance rides. I've been thinking about the Tour de Shore too since Will mentioned it.

I think a slow ride sounds really good. My max is around 15 mph so I like to keep it easy paced. Also, the point seems to be with other bikers riding than to run them down and show how muscular one is. I have some friends who are interested in riding the northwest trail out up to the Botanic Gardens in Northbrook. No set date yet, but I think it's gonna be a blast. You'd definitely be invited to join us. We're slow too so its all good.

Maybe we can have someone bring a boombox and keep "Slowride" by Foghat on repeat for the appreciation of other pedestrians!

I keep thinking I need to organize a slow ride from a Blue Line stop in Oak Park to Lockport or the Joliet Iron Works...

I did not know there was a Blue Line stop in Oak Park!  I would be up for that, too, especially since I have never ridden that way.
