Does anyone know wazup with the Centennial Trail? Got on at Willow Springs road

yesterday, and found the western portion closed at Lemont road. I don't think it was weather related

as they put up chainlink mesh to deny acces.

They are closing the trails until October because they found Asian carp in a branch of the Des Plaines River and they are bringing in the Army Corps of Engineers to try to construct some kind of barrier to keep them out of the Great Lakes. I swear I'm not making this up. I happened to be there the day they shut down the second leg of the trail (the newer paved trail between the mulch stocks and the Swing Bridge) and had a chance to talk to a Ranger about this. I'm at a loss now because this was my favorite ride. Anybody want to suggest alternatives for those of us who like to take a road bike onto paved trails out of the line fire from Chicago traffic.
What a shame, I ran this trail last week for the first time to downtown Lockport. The newer paved section west of 355 was beautiful. Most days I do the Salt Creek trail, today I am going to try to check out the trail by 127th and Harlem, another paved trail.
Tha Asian carp deal is comical, they did two major kills this year and guess what? No carp past the existing barrier. There was a report of ONE in Lake Calumet this week, but who knows, some jamoke could have released it in there.
