I'm not sure if there are stores that would rent a rack, but you can pick up a trunk rack that would do the job relitively inexpensively. Nashbar has one for $50.

I have one I picked up from target for $30, it mounts on most standard cars and i use it whenever I get a rental car and take my bikes with.

REI has various rentals, and they sell bike racks for cars. Maybe they rent them?
