Happy New Years Everyone!

There's a traditional New Years Day Paddle that happens at the Skokie Lagoons every Year.

I'm thinking of biking out there this year and wanted to see if there was any interest in putting together a ride to go out there.

It's right on the North Branch Trail near Tower Road.  It's 17 miles one way from my place near Damen and Diversey.

If there's enough interest I can see about having canoes up there for us.

well, that was fun... trying to stay on an icy board with the champagne bubbling through my conscience.
could hardly stand on dry land... so we thought we'd try our luck walking on water.

Nice video!

I had a nice time!  Somehow, for a large portion of the trip, we didn't see anyone else.  This also reinforced that I am not an expert canoeing.  The high water levels made for some low hanging branches and a lot of stuff to duck!  Or....maybe it was just me.

thanks! i'll pass the compliment along.
no, it wasn't just you. more than once my compadres and i found ourselves in "limbo". we wound up passing a few canoes while a couple kayaks passed us too. everyone else seemed to have been in great spirits too. wishin' in retrospect that we could've coordinated a bit to accompany you.

the polar plunge was miserable this year. and ive thrown in the towel on doing it again.  maybe a paddle next year is in store.
I told my friend that paddling was kind of like polar plunge roulette.  Especially since one of the organizers seemed to be into hazing and was talking about how many people he'd pulled out of the water over the years and soundly critisized that we didn't have clothes with us in the boat.
