Calculate how much riding to work would save. - Thanks Lifehacker.

Biking to work seems like the eco-friendly thing to do, but does it actually save you any money on a short commute? Personal finance site Kiplinger does the math for you, and the answer usually turns out affirmative.

Kiplinger's model takes monthly parking fees, current gas prices, general maintenance and depreciation costs, and insurance. Enter in your round-trip distance, monthly parking fees, and toll costs, and you'll see just how much you'd save by turning the wheel instead of turning a key. If you live somewhere where cycling makes sense, even if for just one season, it's worth seeing how you could, in many cases, pay for your own lunch with a bike trip.
