(Was there ever any doubt the cyclists would beat the airplane?)

According to Twitter-based calculations by @bcgp, the unofficial finish times were:
Bike: 1:34
Metro/Walk: 1:44
Rollerblades: 2:40
Plane/Lost Cab Driver: 2:54
A good article by the LA Times, except oddly, no mention of the team who took public transportation and walked, beating the plane by seventy minutes. Nor the solo female inline skater, who covered the 40 miles fourteen minutes ahead of the airline passenger.
For Los Angeles, the public transit results are the most earth shaking. Tom Vanderbilt, in his Slate blog, admitted to not knowing that taking public transportation from Burbank to Long Beach was even possible. If Angelenos, with this demonstration, discovered public transport, bicycles, walking & skating as viable means of transportation, they could transform that ungodly place into something entirely more liveable.
