EVANSTON BIKE BANNING?
The city of Evanston continues to entertain the possibility of banning bikes along certain corridors, especially in business districts:
- What demand or evidence supports bike banning in those districts?
- Banning bikes will hurt local businesses.
- This deterrent would create yet another impediment to getting more people on bicycles.
- Even with so-called "comfortable corridors", we will see no net gain in bicycle ridership.
- Without more bicyclists on the roads, the meager infrastructure that currently exists will never be fully utilized and expanded.
- This is counter to the city of Evanston's adopted goal of 20% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2016.
