Bikes for needy kids

Now through Thanksgiving Mikes Bike Shop will be collecting bike for under privileged children. We need the help of the communities, so bring in those bicycles you haven’t ridden in years. Remember, the community is what helps this program be a continuing success. So please any and all donations are appreciated. Mikes Bike Shop, 155 N Northwest Hwy, Palatine. IL 847-358-0948 will be donating bicycles on November 24.

Over the course of the last 8 years Mikes Bike Shop has given away over 1500 bicycles to underprivileged children and adults. Mikes Bike Shop has given bicycles to organizations such as Lutheran Orphanage, Pads, local and intercity churches (St. Vincent, DePaul, and Chicago City Church). Some bicycles have been given to residents of the New Orleans metro area, after Hurricane Katrina and missionaries in Africa, Haiti, and Mongolia.

Mikes Bike Shop takes in unwanted bikes, cleans and tunes them up. Mikes Bike Shop also replaces tubes, tires, seats, grips, cables and training wheels as necessary. Last year the Mikes Bike Shop staff donated 189 hours to refurbishing bikes for the donation program. Donations are accepted Labor Day and ending the Monday before Thanksgiving Every Year

The goal of this program is to keep unwanted bikes out of land fills and make children who are less fortunate happy with an energy efficient mode of transportation and the happiness and independence that cycling can offer.
