The Chainlink

My bike was stolen sometime between 9pm and 1am on Tuesday night, August 10th. It was locked with a black Masterlock u-lock to a metal gate in front of my apartment building, which is on Ada Street just south of Chicago Ave.

2009 Gray Giant Cypress, Women's Small. Bike has a green bell by the right handle. Cuberider light underneath the seat. Black metal wire basket is locked to the front of the bike by a Bell padlock. Has a sticker on the frame with the City of Chicago flag / info on it, also has a sticker that says it was bought at Beverly Bike & Ski.

I already filed a police report and I have the serial number and original receipt. Please call me at 708-620-4426 or email me at anoceanofagirl@gmail.com if you have any information! Thanks!
Ann,

Very sorry this happened!

Please file a report with the Chicago Stolen Bike Registry. It's being used by various groups to try to match stolen bikes with their owners, and it's much more easily searchable than the registry you found.

Also, please consider =not= offering a reward for its return-- there's a very good chance you'll be paying the thief directly, and even if not, you'll be rewarding someone for dealing in stolen bikes.

I don't understand what motivates some of these stolen bike listing sites to poll for reward amount but not other very basic and necessary information.

FYI a U-lock is better than a cable lock, but there are some quick-and-easy ways to defeat the cheaper U-locks (which I won't post publicly)-- consider at least a basic Kryptonite or On-Guard Bulldog for your next bike.
