bike shops in chicago that carry ipod speakers that mount on your bike?

I don't know if I've ever seen any at a local bike shop, but I ordered one of these and have been enjoying it lately. A bit overpriced, but I've been happy with the product so far. Loud enough for personal use, decent enough sound quality, great battery life and a breeze to mount.

i've read a lot of bad reviews about the iride, so it looks like i'll have to make an investment.

You could always do something like this for pretty cheap. All you have to do is figure out a way to mount it, or you could always strap it to a rack or put it in a basket. Not sure about the sound quality though. An electronics shop (or Best Buy) would be your best bet (rather than a bike shop) for something like this. Just look for something rechargeable or battery-powered and portable. Figuring out how to ride with it is the easy part.

ran the iHome iH19 dropped into "Spinaci" style bars with elastic straps holding it in place (sort of) for quite some time ~ sound isn't bad for personal use, batteries last pretty long, reasonably waterproof (don't soak it) ~ at first they were $80, eventually got some at Costco for $40 and then $30 ~ attaching and riding with them (managing them when going over bumps) was the challenge ~ launched a 3G 30 and later a 5G 160 off the bars to the ground (path, and street, even!) more than a few times, never any damage (ymmv) ~ have now moved on from them, creating my own prototypes with much better sound and other cool features ~ with stepwise refinements, who knows where it will go?

I had posted this in the Commuting discussion, but here it is:

This one fits into a modified water bottle carrier that it comes with. It has a remote control that fits on your handlebars. The price also dropped recently, so it's a good buy in my eyes.
I've had mine for about a year and change now and it does the job pretty well. The volume can actually crank fairly well for four AA batteries (I use rechargeables) and the controls are right at your thumbs.
I've had this on in some strong headwinds and I can always get it loud enough to compensate.

Unfortunately, I don't think anyone locally carries it (I could not find it at the Apple store when I was looking), but Apple does ship.
I have dropped mine a few times and gotten into a tussle with a car and it still works. The casing is pretty beefy.
Concerning water: I don't use it in the rain, but I have used it in some light snow. An option would be to put it in a plastic bag and turn it on, but I can do without for a bit.
