Stumbled upon this article on LinkedIn. While not specifically about bike couriers, they do feature prominently in the discussion of the decision Christina Stembel, Farmgirl's founder, made to hire all of her workers as W-2 employees. It's costing her a lot in terms of growth, but in the end it seems much better for her employees.

I'm guessing it is extremely rare for bike couriers/messengers to be full-time employees?

"You get what you pay for."

Modern entrepreneurs and investors only care about their returns and the bottom line. They don't understand the value of a dedicated employee. That's just the direction our economy has been moving for quite a while.

Is there an "ism" for socially responsible focus using capital as a "tool only"?
