I live in the far north burbs and my best friend is in Logan Square. We are looking forward to biking together with and without our kids. I,would like to get her a bike carrier that can handle her road bike and her sons BMX. Does anyone have reccomendations on a carrier for her hatchback(nissan versa)? Prefferably something Chicago friendly(not easily stolen, and not difficult to remove or install).

Saris make great racks.  We used an older version of the Bones a few times, often carrying 3 bikes.  Can seem a little awkward to get on and off but once you know what you are doing.  The newer models have a strap that is much harder to cut than the old seatbelt style.  Definitely recommended.

This one comes in a 2-bike hanging model, 3-bike hanging model, and 2-bike platform model....  4 steel cables vs. 6 nylon webbing straps....  Easy on....  Easy off....  Built in lock for cables on one side....  built in lock for the bikes....  Sure the cables can be cut....  But they're harder to cut than the nylon webbing....I work in a shop that sells Thule and Saris (and bought a Yakima roof rack when I worked in a shop that sold Yakima....)  IMHO this is the BEST rear rack out there!!!!

Carrying the BMX might be a problem. I have 42cm Cross Check and the top tube length is the absolute minimum length that will allow for attaching to my Thule carrier. My daughter's 20" bike always has to go in the trunk when we need to haul the bikes somewhere.
