I think that the road planning in all towns, cities, anf states should include a bicycle lane. I should be able to commute from Fox Lake to Schaumburg for example in a bike lane without fear of getting struck by a car. Many suburban roads are too narrow to share the road with the bicycle. Share your thoughts.

Unfortunately the rights of way in Chicago are too narrow for bike lanes on most streets.

@jarad,

I know and it is too bad, how many time do you here about a bike car collision in Chicago, and it always the bikes fault....hmm Bike, horses and pedestrians were there long before there were cars.

@Jeff, I wish I was able to see that, maybe someday. Moving forward, we need to recognize that there is need for change, and when planners that build roads or re-stripe them, they need to consider the bike, or pedestrian. if we are allowed the 3' as they say we are, then just strip the road that way.  When they see a biker in it then they need to move over.

Its happening very slowly, but its happening.

Lawrence Ave. is being trimmed from 4 lanes to 2 lanes, better bicycle lane and pedistrian friendly between Ashland and Western Ave.  This should reduce the speeds of vehicles on this stretch, but on the flip side, traffic should increase.  Not sure if that's going to help bicyclists...
