best bike rides/tours with kids in Midwest

Looking for one day organized rides or weekend rides that are appropriate to do with a kid in a trailer. My son is 2 and 1/2. We had a great time doing Apple Cider last year. I'd love to do a few more rides this year. He likes to camp/stay in a hotel so a weekend ride would be a possibility as well. Any suggestions?

West of Joliet there is a pretty nice trail called the Illinois & Michigan Canal Trail. Nice and shaded. Could be a relaxing option. Not sure what his tolerance is but it's about 50 miles to Ottawa, IL, which is a lovely little town and would be a nice place to spend the night before heading back the next day if that's your jam. Recommend Bianchi's pizza in Ottawa. :)
