Folks,
I'm adding this to the calendar, but since registration closes on the 20th, I thought I'd post as well. If you're interested in racing but want to know more about the rules, or if you like bike racing but would rather have a role other than being in the race, here's a great opportunity.

The Illinois Cycling Association is very, very short on officials, forcing some events to run short-handed (and give poor results) and others to pay big bucks to bring officials in from out of state (a cost that's passed on in registration fees, making you pay more to race.) Why not give back to the sport by getting your license and officiating a few track, road, or CX races in 2009? Hell, you even get paid... a little.

If you have questions about the clinic, being an official, etc, feel free to contact me. I got my license last year and officiated about a dozen races this year.

wait - you get paid for watching cycling very, very intently?!? that doesn't sound too terrible :)
Held at my alma mater, go HP Giants!
Yeah, you get paid... a little. Most days it's between $60-100 for about 8 hrs of work. But you also meet just about everyone in the cycling community, you learn alot about smart strategies for racing, and you get a front row seat for the action. Ain't bad!
What Popper said! Here's a chance to be part of the traveling circus that is the local USAC racing scene. You'll have the best seats for all of the crashes, not to mention our local officials are all really great people - I can think of worse ways to spend a weekend.

Also, as a one-time offer, if you agree to move me up five spots in all of my results for 2009, I'll paint your house, mow your lawn and build you a bike using bamboo, flax and the souls of the 1909 Italian National Cycling Team. Act now!

(Oh, if by chance you DO end up as a USAC official... and you're standing in the wheel pit of the state championship that's almost 150 miles from Chicago, and a racer from the windy city limps in on a flat tire one lap after the pits close... don't say "Wow, sucks to be you!" Just a piece of advice. Thanks.)
why does it have to be at hphs? i never want to go back there. sorry giants.
did anyone go? how was it?
