I've never been to Asheville but often times I take for granted that Chicago streets are generally safe places to ride. It seems I've been seeing a spike in bike-related accidents reported from smaller cities. Recently there was a cyclist killed by a driver in my hometown of Grand Rapids, MI which set off a discussion/ rant concerning the role of cyclists on roadways.

The firefighter is on paid investigative leave.

Yet another reason to wear your helmet.

Seriously, the firefighter's explanation that he was angry with the cyclist for endangering his child's safety sounds fishy to me. I thought maybe there was a racial motive (my family used to live in Asheville) but looked at the available info and couldn't find any. Maybe the firefighter is just crazy.
Jesus Christ! This is when ya need conceal and carry laws cause the wife coulda shot his ass right there. None of this paid investigative leave and lengthy trial that costs tax payer dollars. All so we can let this guy off with 10 years in jail (more tax payer dollars.)
