The Chainlink

Hi everyone,

I just added Strava to my apps (the free version).

It's sort of fun, but I haven't figured out much more than than the mileage and time.

The average speed it provides isn't actually very useful since I hit so many stoplights on my commute, but I would love to know my maximum speed. Also, the route map it provided seemed really off.  Looked like a round trip, but it wasn't. Hmm...

Anyway, anyone tried it? What do you like/dislike?

Do people have other cycling apps that they use?

Try swiping left from the map. It gives your speed against your cumulative mileage, including top speed. If you ride through segments, those can track an avg. time too. There are a few I ride on Elston that are fun to watch against the wind that day.

I find the routes can be a little jagged - probably since the GPS can be buggy among high rises. The only feature I wish it had was a total time elapsed. They used to do that, but then it changed to moving time. It would be nice to see the difference on commutes.

Every now and then I'll check flybys, to see who I rode with. Occasionally I'll get my ride paired up with another person if we commuted together for a stretch. I just tried pairing it with my Orangetheory HR monitor, for additional stats, but nothing super insteresting on that front. If I had the setup, I'd be super interest in tracking my cadence.

Tl;dr - simple enough for tracking commute/total mileage on gear stats. More entertaining if you're training or riding in fun places (like the mountains!!)
