RAIL North is a one day 175 mile ride across Illinois, from the Moline to Chicago. It is held on the Saturday before summer solstice.

I did the inaugural ride 2 years ago and plan to do it again this year. It was well organized with plenty food stops, mechanical and sag support. And if you are like me, and don't own a car, this is probably the longest organized point-to-point ride you can do without needing access to a car. (On Friday, you take greyhound to Moline, on Saturday, you ride back to Chicago)

Any one else doing it this year?

I hope to assuming my back is still happy. I like to ride across states.

Ha, I did Chicago-to-Moline by myself in 2013 over the course of FOUR days. My personal record is 75 miles in a day...always dream of doing a century. But adding another 75 to THAT...yow. :)

I hear you. It sounds daunting. But it is a lot easier than a 300k brevet, since it is a lot more organized and logistically easier, especially if you live in the city.
Training was not overly complex either. I took 3 long rides of 110, 130, and 145 miles. One of them was a long beer ride that Serge puts on, so you have company for a significant portion of the ride.
And I did it with and average riding speed of only 14.5 miles, giving me plenty of time for rest stops.

Ah.  One day.  Two would be a challenge for me....
