Anyone ever get hit by a cab, only to get nowhere with CPD or justice?

Just trying to see if I'm an anomaly and/or there's anything else I can do to bring justice to a hit and run case in which I was the victim.

I was hit by a cab in Andersonville on Jan. 24th, 2013, who fled the scene.  Semi-miraculously, I chased the cab and caught him, banged on the window to get him to  pull over, only to have him drive up over the sidewalk and escape into traffic on Broadway.

I got the cab number.  I have a decent recollection of the driver including hearing him say "I did not hit you".  I also have a witness who witnessed the driving up on the sidewalk on Broadway.  I called 911 immediately after he fled the scene, filled out an accident report with the CPD officer who responded, and the witness was kind enough to stick around and give his information to the officer.

I went through the steps listed from a link on this site to the Crash Support hotline, filling out an affidavit with the consumer affairs division, and the state Attorney General.  The responding officer said it might be "a couple days before anyone contacts you."  I have called the police major accident's division (the number I was given) multiple times to inquire about progress, only to be told a different excuse every time and the assurance that an officer has been assigned to my case and will get in touch with me.  Next Friday will be the 3 month anniversary of the accident so I called both the cab's insurance company and the CPD today to follow up  and again, got nowhere with both.

The insurance company states that the driver denies hitting anyone so... case closed.  The consumer affairs division sent a letter thanking me for my diligence and now the driver has a mark on his record, but they cannot act to seek or award damages.  The CPD continues to state that there are 40K hit&runs per year and they'll get to me when they get to me.  I understand that Chicago has its share of bigger problems and I was fortunate to not have sustained any lasting injuries to my body, and only a dented rim to my bike, but still.... Consulting with one of the "cycling attorneys", I was told that since I have no injuries, no lawyer will bother with the case.  I naively thought that since most cabs have cameras now, the CPD could obtain the footage, see the accident, go to court where I identify the driver, and at least get one more maniac off the streets, even if I never receive a dime in recompense.  Isn't a hit&run a kind of serious felony?

I'd just be curious if anyone else has gotten anywhere with dealing with a cab company and the CPD.  FWIW, the cab was a yellow cab #3091, a 2009 Toyota Camry, at the time driven by a very dark skinned man with a french/jamaican/nigerian? accent.  I just find it very sad that one can be hit and left for dead, have enough information to act in the aim of justice, but get nowhere with our existing agencies.  Replies welcome.

I'm glad you had a witness to the cab's "over the sidewalk" escape.  I only wish you had a witness to the actual hit and run.  Then it's not his word against yours.

Steven Vance did a write-up with his experience with a cab driver who passed too close to him and harassed him.

Thank you for the link yai. It appears that I am anxious but premature to assume that the wheels of justice are not moving, however slowly. Maybe I'll do a similar follow-up sometime in July.
