any thoughts on nirve bikes?

I had my bike lifted last month (enjoy that seized seat post, ya bastich!), and am looking for a new ride.  Checked out a 2009 Nirve Brookhurst and really liked it. 

My issue: don't know much about Nirve.  Cruisers are their penchant (3-speed automatics--admirable), but not my style.  The steel frame seemed really responsive, and I loved the short wheelbase. 

Anyone have experience/perspective/thoughts on Nirve commuters?  They any good?
