The Chainlink

Hey guys,

I have been toying around with app creation on the Android platform and I had an idea I wanted to run past you all. I want to create an app for this forum. I would model it off after the XDA forums app and build it from the ground up. I'm sure I would have to get in contact with an administrator here for some resources but before I got too involved with the details, I had a question for everyone...

Would you use an app to access these forums? No sense in building something if there is no demand ;).

Well except for the challenge of it.

App are much more lightweight and quicker than using a browser.

The Chainlink already has a mobile aspect to the site.  But no mobile web-app can be as lightweight and quick as a native app for the smartphone.  That's the whole point.  All that other browser stuff is wasted bandwidth on the wireless plan and wasted processing by the smartphone's CPU.

i currently use the full site on my g2 android google phone.  i have the same issues as Joe, tiny links.

most mobile sites seem to have a lack of function.  if one were to go that route, id be careful of that detail, as a site like chainlink does have a very user oriented approach.

i guess i'd say the same for an app. but i would vote for a cross platform system.

When y'all speak of the mobile site...ya tlkin bout for iphone? Or am I missing out on something?

Nice!  I was wondering how people got to the mobile site.  I'm on Android and it renders well enough in the native browser, though it could use some work.  The calendar isn't available.  Looks like NING is planning to improve its mobile site this year:  http://creators.ning.com/page/product-roadmap .

Personally, I don't think I'd use an Android app, but it's always a great experience to make one.  Go for it!

I would use droid app.

bump.  Any other ideas for this potential android app?  I know we need to create for the iphone too.
