An Illinois Cyclist's reason to recall WI Gov Walker

These new traincars have room for 8 bicycles each. That means roll-off service to Milwaukee and Sturtevant/Kettle Moraine/Bong State Park. They're almost built - and Walker is the only thing obstructing their tracks.

Whatever your political leaning, Wisconsin needs our help.

I never said anything negative against cars or drivers.  All I was pointing out is that the cost of driving is significantly more than the cost of the gas burned.

You will get no argument from me that driving is more convenient or faster.  I'll I am trying to point out is that public transportation is often cheaper than driving, including Madison ($40-$50 on Megabus).

I understand, but it seemed that you were trying to tell James that even though he is disregarding all of the other auto expenses, it is still cheaper to take Amtrak (and the Amtrak example took him to Milwaukee, not his folks' place near Madison).

I'm just nit-picking I guess.

Cars aren't evil -roads that let cars zoom around at high speed are evil.

Without these ill-concieved roads the cars never would have come, would never have been manufactured and sold.  It's the roads that brought the demand for the cars.

Roads should be narrow, and built for pedestrians, bicycles, and other human-powered vehicles.  They'd cost a TINY FRACTION of the monstrosities that are built today to handle the myriad automobile traffic -nor be as hard on he environment to source and build them.

Every time someone uses the argument against a  stateless society of, "Well, who would build the roads????"  -maybe these stupid roads weren't a good idea in the first place!

Build the roads, and they will come...

What does this mean? I have at least one experience weekly reminding me that I'm living in one of the greatest cities on earth. It never crosses my mind to be embarrassed about living here. Can you elaborate?

Agree with h'. Aside from our always entertaining politicians this is a pretty great city to live in.

If there weren't places to drive cars people wouldn't buy them.  That's not an oversimplification -it's just the way it is.

Very few people buy ice boats because there are so few times and places where they could be sailed.  It's just not worth it.   If for some reason the government built ice-roads and maintained them all winter long with zambonis so that ice-boats could sail up and down the length and breadth of the USA people would buy more ice boats.

This is simple economics.

The same goes for roads.
