I'm taking a trip to ABQ in september--anyone have any tips/info about biking in the area--esp. a good place to rent a bike? And any other info (where to eat, hiking, etc.)

Thanks,

I was there earlier this year, the town seemed to be alright for cycling although I didn't see too many people riding bikes outside of the area by the UNM campus. However, you should allow some time to get used to the high altitude before doing any significant biking or hiking. It's about a mile above sea level and really dry so you'll need to take it easy for a few days.

ABQ is a great city to cycle. There is an extensive set of paved bike paths and many streets have bike lanes. The bike lanes are wide and there are warning signs for drivers to watch out for cyclists in the bike lanes. ABQ is mostly a flat plateau surrounded by some good hills for climbing. If you can put off your trip until early October, the hot air balloon festival is fun to watch. Make sure you go to Petroglyph National Monument for a hike.
