I'm not keen on asking drivers to read something. Wouldn't that just be a (further) distraction from paying attention to driving? No complaints about the color though.

This is what the UK traffic police wear, the vest Anne linked to is meant to catch driver's attention, not sure how well it would go over here in Chicago
