Tell me what you guys think about this. I think it's a little ambitious and bikers will be the first to get the chop

I could also imagine lots of tourists and such crowding up this "protected bikelane" while waiting for their buses.

I like the idea of the bus only lane, but I'd rather have a bike lane with buffers to the left of the lane towards traffic and bollards to the ride to keep buses from leap frogging each other on these sections.

The bike lane should be between the car traffic and bus traffic.

But wouldn't isolating riders to a buffered lane be dangerous in itself? If something jumps in your way theres nowhere to go.

A buffered lane to the right of traffic flow would be simply marked pavement.  A rider would still be able to move left into the traffic lane as needed. The bus lane would be to the right of the bike lane.

If it's a one way street like in the photo then just put the bus and bike lanes on the opposite side of the road from each other.  I always figured that's why the bike lane on Dearborn is on the left.

Ah I see, I just don't want an island in between me and the street.

I don't like it; but then again I am not a fan of protected bike lanes...

That said it does look like there is a barrier that forces pedestrians to use the crosswalk to get to the bus stop itself.  I still see it being a shit-show though.

I agree it makes more sense to just put a regular, or buffered, bike lane on the opposite side of the road from the buss.
