The Chainlink

Hi everyone,
Copies of the brand new and updated Chicagoland Bike Map have arrived!

This version seriously is bigger and better. It includes more trails and connections and we expanded the map's coverage: all the way up to Lake Geneva and all the way down to Grundy County.

Googlemaps is great, but it's got nothing on this one: The Chicagoland Bike Map made with the help of more than 100 volunteer cyclists who scanned and surveyed the entire region. We also expanded the maps coverage:

Other details and highlights of the new map are here: www.activetrans.org/bikemap.

Just a reminder: The Chicagoland Bike Map is free when you join or renew your membership (even if it is a few months early...!).

For a limited time, we are offering additional copies to Active Trans members for only $5 Find out more by calling our Membership Director
Lee Crandell at lee@activetrans.org.

Otherwise, the map is $10 and you can buy it at www.activetrans.org/shop. Or you can always stop in our office at 9 W. Hubbard St. in Chicago.

So go explore at once! Don't forget your map.

This is exciting news! There was a time not too long ago when a five year old bike map was still more or less useful. But with all the new trails opening up all over the place I'm really looking forward to seeing the new edition.

2. Is the ActiveTrans server down or something? I have not been able to visit the URL for the last half hour or so. The whole site was down for a while earlier this week also.

Is it just me?
I ordered a copy. I even spent the full $10 because I was too lazy to email Lee. Whatever, call it a donation.

Tony: The ATA site has been really, really slow and sporadic all week for me.
I believe they are switching to a new server.
Thanks all, we're excited about the map, too. It's really cool. We taped up a new copy next to our framed copy of the last version and the number of trails/lanes/routes is nearly double (my estimate).

Our web host is our issue and we plan to switch to a new host but need to wait until after Bike to Work Week, unfortunately.

Our tech master is working on a reboot now, sorry about the issues.

Ethan, with Active Trans

PS: our office is closed today so our staff can get a break after Bike the Drive....but, we should be able to reboot the site.
The website is slow, but the shipping is fast -- my map was in my mailbox today after ordering yesterday.
Site was back up, but now I can't get back in again.
